Bible Corrupted and the Quran Preserved?

Muslims
believe
that
the
Bible
has
been
corrupted
over
time
and
that
the
Quran
is
the
only
true
and
unaltered
revelation
from
God.

Let’s examine the evidence

The Quran Affirms the Bible’s Authenticity

The Quran itself acknowledges the authority of the Torah and the Gospel (Injil):

“And We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Gospel…” Surah 5:46-47

“So if you are in doubt, [O Muhammad], about that which We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you.” Surah 10:94

If the Bible was already corrupted before the time of Muhammad, why would Allah direct people to it for guidance?

However, manuscript evidence overwhelmingly supports the Bible’s preservation:

The Dead Sea Scrolls (dated 3rd century BC to 1st century AD) show upon comparison that the Old Testament text has remained unchanged for over 2,000 years.

The New Testament has over 5,800 Greek manuscripts, confirming that it has not been altered.

If the Bible was changed, when and how did this happen?

There is no historical evidence of a universal corruption of Scripture.

God’s Promise to Preserve His Word

The Bible itself declares that God’s Word will never be lost or corrupted:

Psalm 12:6-7 – “The words of the Lord are pure words… You, O Lord, will keep them; You will preserve them from this generation forever.”

Isaiah 40:8 – “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

Matthew 24:35 – Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.”

If God is powerful enough to give His Word, He is also powerful enough to preserve it.

Where Is the “Uncorrupted” Bible?

If Muslims claim the Bible was changed, they must answer:

  • Where is the “original” uncorrupted Bible?

  • Who corrupted it, when, and why?

  • How could Christians, Jews, and other groups worldwide conspire to change every copy?

  • Without solid evidence, the claim that the Bible is corrupted is just a convenient assumption, not a fact.

The Gospel Stands True

The message of the Bible has never changed: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to save sinners through His death and resurrection. This truth is unchanged across all manuscripts and history.

Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

The Lost Versions of the Quran

On the other hand Muslims believe that the Quran has been perfectly preserved since the time of Muhammad. However, historical evidence shows that multiple versions of the Quran once existed—and were later destroyed to enforce a single standard text. What does this mean for the claim that the Quran is unchanged?

The Quran Was Not Originally Written Down Completely

During Muhammad’s lifetime, the Quran was not compiled into a single book. Instead, his followers memorised it and wrote portions on bones, palm leaves, and stones. After Muhammad’s death, differences in recitation arose among his companions.

Islamic sources confirm this:

“Hudhaifa was afraid of their [Muslims’] differences in the recitation of the Quran, so he said to Uthman, ‘O Caliph, save this nation before they differ over the Book as Jews and Christians did before.’” Sahih al-Bukhari 4987

Caliph Uthman Ordered Other Versions to Be Burned

To eliminate differences, in around 650AD the third caliph, Uthman, ordered a standard version of the Quran to be written and commanded that all other versions be burned.

“Uthman sent to every Muslim province one copy of what they had copied and ordered that all the other Quranic materials, whether written in fragmentary manuscripts or whole copies, be burnt.” Sahih al-Bukhari 4987

Why would this be necessary if the Quran had been perfectly preserved from the beginning?

Famous Quranic Variants Existed

Early Muslim scholars acknowledged different versions of the Quran:

Ibn Mas’ud – One of Muhammad’s closest companions, he rejected Uthman’s version and refused to give up his own collection. His version did not include Surah 1, 113, and 114.

Ubayy ibn Ka’b

His version contained additional surahs not found in the modern Quran.

The Bible vs. The Quran: A Key Difference

Unlike the Quran, the Bible was never standardised by force. Though there are different translations, they all come from faithfully preserved manuscripts. The thousands of ancient manuscripts confirm that the message of the Bible remains unchanged.

In contrast, the history of the Quran shows that versions were intentionally destroyed to ensure uniformity. If the Quran was truly unaltered, why was such drastic action needed?

What This Means for You

The claim that the Quran has been perfectly preserved does not match historical evidence. Instead, it was edited and standardised by human decisions.

The Bible has stood the test of time and continues to be the international number one best selling book of all time. Will you examine it with an open heart and seek the truth?

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)
