Have you lost all faith in our politicians? Can you believe a single word they say? Maybe you’re angry or disappointed with the government? Today many people are fed up with the same old, same old. It’s true isn’t it. No matter who comes to power nothing changes and society sinks ever deeper into chaos.

A failed National Health Service, rising energy bills, skyrocketing food prices, economic collapse, immigration crisis, Covid-19 and a looming world war, have left a people tired, fearful, depressed, and hopeless.

In the yearning for a brighter day people put their faith in government, but then despair when politicians defer on their promises. It is a sad fact that our government is unable to deliver. Certainly Number 10 is not our hope. In fact it will never be the vehicle to see fundamental change in our nation.

So where is the hope?

Many people put their hope in a new political leader, be it Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who says, “We’re going to roll up our sleeves, fix the problems and improve our country”, or Nigel Farage who declares, “Only Reform will secure Britain’s future as a free, proud and rich nation.” Or over the pond, Americans place their hope in Joe Biden or Donald Trump. Still others put their faith in the words of characters like clinical psychologist, Jordan Peterson, or in past religious figures, such as Buddha.

With the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 many royalists looked to the new King of England to enact the change our nation so desperately needs. But let’s face it, by now we should know there’s no one out there to put our hope in. Or is there?

A leader we can trust

During a time of great trial under Roman occupation a powerful leader arose. This man brought lasting change to all those who put their hope in him. His manifesto brought revolutionary change, not only to the Roman Empire, but throughout history to the present day. In fact, so influential was he, that his birth divided all time, before him and after him.

It was said of this leader, ‘The government will be on his shoulders...He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.’

Have you guessed who it is? That’s right, the man called Jesus Christ.

Christ will eventually set up his full governmental rule, where all earthly powers along with their corruption and broken promises will be destroyed forever.

At a time when the world is weary and despairing of answers, when the political

future is bleak, this is good news. Things won’t always be this way.

A better day is coming for anyone who puts their faith in Christ Jesus. The Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” Romans 10:13

Importantly it is not only a future hope, but a present reality too.

Christ told those who follow him, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

We know our politicians cannot give us peace. The truth is, only Christ can. Christ will not only bring lasting peace in the final establishment of his governmental rule, but also promises to give anyone who follows him peace in these troubled times now.

Let us look to Christ for the answer. Let us also wait with a certain hope for the day when he returns to establish the political solution that will bring peace and justice once and for all.

If this message makes sense to you, it is time to put your faith in Christ. It is not about going to church or observing religious rules. It is about having a personal relationship with God. Simply begin by asking God to forgive you for your sin. Tell him you want to turn your back on the past and follow Christ into the future. This is the first step on your journey with God. The next step is to begin reading the Bible and to find people who believe the same.
